OR HAMIZRACH, the Hebrew Torah Journal
of the Religious Zionists of America has released its Summer 5766
issue, the seventh in the reconstituted series under the editorship
of Rabbis Elchanan Adler and Nathaniel Helfgot. The volume
contains thirteen essays authored by Torah scholars from Israel
and the United States in the areas of Talmud, Halakha, Tanakh and
Jewish Thought. The articles include: “The Musaf Sacrifice During
the Desert Era”, “Beneficial Actions Taken on Another’s Behalf in
His Absence”, “The Wearing of the Talit by an Unmarried Young Man”
and “The Status of the Older Person in Halakhah”. The volume also
includes a section with readers’ letters and short communications
on assorted topics. As a special bonus, the issue contains
a subject and author index of essays that have appeared in
OR HAMIZRACH over the past eighteen years, enabling readers to mine
the rich archives of Torah insights that have graced this Torah
journal for the bulk of the past two decades.
A new component of OR HAMIZRACH features a compendium of five selected
essays, translated into English, drawn from past issues of OR HAMIZRACH
and the current one. The following is a partial list of articles:
“Settling Eretz Yisrael in Contemporary Times”, “The Rambam’s Position
Regarding Pesach Sheni”, “The Relationship Between Ein Kelokeinu
and Pittum Ha-Ketoret”. Entitled “From the Pages of OR HAMIZRACH:
An English Compendium”, this volume offers the broader English-speaking
public a taste of the high level of Torah scholarship that has
been the hallmark of OR HAMIZRACH since its inception.
Religious Zionists of America Chairman Martin Oliner notes, “this
continues the resurgence of RZA as the driving force behind the
Orthodox community’s support of and involvement with the State
of Israel as we bring scholarly Zionist writings to the religiously
observant and a religious perspective to the unaffiliated.”
This volume is available for purchase through the RZA office at
212-465-9234, and at fine Jewish bookstores across the country.
